We got here on Friday afternoon and moved in temporarily with our friends Eric and Amanda until our condo is ready on the 2nd. We keep driving past our place, trying to get a good look at it! Hopefully the people who live there now haven't noticed yet.
The weather's been great up here so far, in the mid-80s during the day and nice and cool overnight. We tried to go for a hike this morning on a section of the Appalachian Trail, but we didn't have a map with us and made a turn onto a portion that was pretty rough going. It was nice to be out in the forest, but it was less a "trail" and more just struggling over rocks and under fallen trees. Oh well, we'll try again.
Orientation for both of us started today, Oliver got his student ID, we got the car registered... those kinds of things. Over the course of the week, Oliver's got lots of different sessions to go to to get him ready to start classes; my things are all fun things like kayaking and breakfasts with the other partners. Then, most nights this week there are dinners to help us get to meet other students and partners. We're excited to finally be here and glad to get started with things, but I think we're both looking forward to getting moved into our own place.
Oh! I almost forgot the crazy thing that happened to us last night!! We were up in Stell Hall (think Hogwart's - a big ancient room with wooden panels covering the wall, leather and velvet couches, big chandeliers) and a bat flew in! It was going back and forth through the room just over our heads. I went to tell the janitor and he acted like it was no big deal at all - he said it happens all the time and that he's pretty sure Tuck students just reincarnate as bats! He walked back up there with me and he was able to shoo the bat out... I knew it was rural here, but wow!
