We got to South Africa yesterday and are really enjoying the change of season! It feels funny to hear Christmas music when it's sunny and 75 degrees, but I'm not complaining! We're in Cape Town now for the next few days and then off on safari. Cape Town is a really pretty city and our hotel is just across from the new stadium that was built for the World Cup.
This morning we went to Robben Island to see the prison where Nelson Mandela spent 18 years. It's now a historical site and a nature preserve. They've done a lot to change the mood of the place to celebrate the hard won efforts of the political prisoners in ending apartheid. Our tour guide was a former prisoner there. We got to see Madiba's cell but his number wasn't on the door anymore, so the pictures aren't too exciting.
Then this afternoon we spent at the waterfront enjoying the sunshine, listening to the street musicians and poking around the shops. Then tonight we're going to dinner and then to mass.
