What a bittersweet day this has been. We drove the Smiths to the airport this morning and sent them on their way to Philadelphia. For good. We know we'll see them often, but our weekends won't be the same without Norah toddling around after Claire, the daddies watching baseball and Lindsay and I chatting in the kitchen. With all our moving around, we haven't had the luck to be near any of our friends for very long but we've lived in the same cities as the Smiths for a combined five years and in so many ways that seems like a lifetime.
After a tearful drive home I needed a lift, so we took off for the Independence Day party at a neighborhood park. We spent Norah's first Fourth teaching her an important summer sensation: the feeling of watermelon juice dripping down your chin. She unabashedly took part, letting seeds stick to her cheeks, chewing every bit of red off that rind and reminding us how precious summer is in Minnesota.
Happy Fourth from Team Perez!
