Inside the Mind of a Two-Year-Old

SCENE I: The kitchen
Me: What would you like for a snack, Norah?
Norah: Cheerios Medley Crunch (God save us the day this cereal is inevitably discontinued...)
Me: Would you like milk on it? (knowing full well that EVERY day she says no, picks out all the granola bits, eats them, and then asks for milk on the rest)
Norah: No.

SCENE 2: The dining room, two minutes later
Me: Hey, Norah, do you need some milk?
Norah: Yup
Me: (Begins to pour milk on cereal)
Norah: AAAAAH!!! NOOOO!!! (melting down...)
Me: (Realizes she meant she wanted a glass of milk; there were OBVIOUSLY still granola pieces to be picked out...) Okay, okay, this is fixable, Norah. It's okay. Take a deep breath.
Norah: (Backs slowly and carefully away from a full-scale meltdown).
Me: (Dumps out the milky cereal, washes and drys the bowl, fills it with dry cereal)

SCENE 3: The dining room, moments later
(Back to the table. Everything is calm again. Norah is re-picking new granola pieces).
Norah: Hey, Mom, could I please have some milk on this cereal?
