Embrace the Subzero!

Earlier this month, we had the chance to head to Fort Snelling for some freezing cold fun! A group of Minneapolis organizations with ties to the outdoors had put together "Winter Play Day" to get folks out to try out new winter sports and cold-weather activities. We've had a relatively mild winter but (of course!) just before this, the temperatures plummeted.
We literally had every layer of clothing on that we could find! It was full-on bundle-up weather.

Despite the cold outside, we were surprisingly warm inside this quinzee (snow cave) that the volunteers had built. It was big enough for the whole family inside.
Hot chocolate cheered everyone up and we went out for a quick second round of exploring.
The DNR had set up an ice fishing tent. Unfortunately, because it had only just started to get really cold here, the ice was still thin and they had to set it up on the shore and just use it for demonstration, not actual fishing! Now, a few weeks later, people are finally able to get out on the ice.
