Sweet Craft Alert!

My best-ever big sister came up from Omaha on a total spur-of-the-moment visit for the weekend. We ate Pizza Luce, had a ladies trip to Home Depot, watched some World Cup and got a ton of stuff done around the house where I needed second opinions on things (second girl opinions, I should say - Oliver's been awesome!)

One of the coolest things about Kimberley is that she always has a craft project at the ready. I don't know where she gets the ideas but it's always like: "Okay, you're going to need to get a vintage soda bottle, some medical gauze, two rusty nails and a can of black spray paint" (always spray paint). Some of these projects turn out better than others, but even with the short-notice trip this one did not disappoint!

Framed Vintage Silverware

Ingredients:
Old silverware
Burlap
Foam board
Frames
Spray paint (of course!)

Instructions:
You can use any frames you have on hand or cheap ones you find at Target, just spray paint them to match eachother. I used matte black.

Take the glass and the backing out the frames and cut the foam board to fit the size of the frame. Cut a burlap piece to be just a little bit bigger than the foam board. Press the foam board, with the burlap on top to fit into the frame cutout. You can tug at the burlap around the sides to make it tight. Then we just used packing tape to tape the burlap edges in back, so it wasn't a mess back there.

Use a hot glue gun to glue on your silverware and voila! A sweet-looking vintage-but-edgy bit of decor. I was also thinking that you could do the same thing with old skeleton keys and then put a hook at the bottom and turn it into a key hanger by your back door. You'll have to do this at your house, though. Five of these things in my house might be a little too much...
